Ocean Parts by Koby Sibony

Ocean Parts by Israeli designer Koby Sibony, is a series of sculptures created from a combination of plastic pieces collected from the beach and metal wire. I love the playfulness and crafty aspects of these creations – particularly the remote control cars and radio. These bring me back to my youth, when I would collect sticks and stones and other debris and make them into creative playthings (kids, this is what we did before the Internet). And thanks to Koby for helping clean up the shorelines!

The Da Vinci of Design: 7 Ways Steve Jobs Changed the Visual Arts Forever (And One Way He Didn't)

Steve Jobs's stunning announcement that he is stepping down as chairman of Apple has investors worried. Can the tech Goliath sustain the momentum it has built under the sensei-like leadership of Chairman Jobs, beginning with his rebranding of the iMac and continuing through the revolutionary launches of the iPhone and iPad? But spare a thought for the art world, which in manifold ways, subtly and not-so-subtly, has been transformed by the innovations Jobs has pushed forward in the last few years (even if artists have come into conflict from the company from time to time). Here, ARTINFO takes a look at a few of the way that Jobs's impact has been felt across the visual arts. thanx artinfo.com

Copyright - Forever Less One Day

In the below video, C.G.P. Grey takes a look at the interesting world of copyright in the U.S. and the affect it has had on the creativity of mainstream culture. The six-minute-long short film gives a quick history of the copyright law since it's inception back in the 1700's, and uses Disney and Star Wars as case studies.

colette: “In The Beginning” by FriendsWithYou

in store gallery at colette’s is host to art collective, Miami’s FriendsWithYou. “In The Beginning” is the The exhibition, which is the debut  series of bronze sculptures and a series of prints, including some exclusive edition prints for colette, an animation video piece and more.  The exhibition starts August 29th and runs through till September 24th.

A Cover With Staying Power: The New York Times snags a sneak peek of Dasha Zhukova's new publication, Garage, and calls it "one of the most intriguing magazines to come along in years." The art-and-fashion glossy's debut boasts three different covers, including one by Damien Hirst featuring a peel-slowly-and-see sticker of a green butterfly covering a female model's crotch. Removing the sticker then reveals a butterfly tattoo by the artist in a delicate place. Did we mention that Shala Monroque, the girlfriend of Hirst dealer Larry Gagosian, is the creative director of the magazine? [NYT]

From Garage with Love

With the continued demise of print journalism, art publications seem to be doing just fine, thankyouverymuch. A new niche mag makes its debut practically every day. True to form, there's one more to add to the list today. Helmed by Pop's former editor-in-chief, Dasha Zhukova, Garage looks like a carefully curated zine, studiously low-budget and vaguely Soviet in design. Named after Zhukova's art space in Moscow and scheduled to come out during New York Fashion Week, Garage is a blend of art of fashion, featuring collaborations between renegade figures in both worlds.

Paging Loewe

Echoing Loewe's bold sense of color and whimsy, the entirety of Masters of Leather, as it's called, was written and illustrated completely by hand. Submerging himself in Madrid and Barcelona, visiting Loewe's ateliers and meeting its artisans, Clarke left no bag unturned. The result is a clever, unconventional look into the world of fine Spanish craftsmanship one and a half centuries in the making.
Words Jenny Studenroth (Hint Magazine)

Available mid-September in all Loewe stores.

Imelda Marcos Puts Her Foot Down Over Controversial Dildo Jesus Art Show in the Philippines, Shuttering It

If there's one thing guaranteed to raise hackles, its the kind of work by Mideo Cruz featured in the exhibition "Kulo," which opened June 17 at Manila's Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP): The pieces in question feature images of Jesus with large dildos fixed to their collaged surfaces, extending visibly outwards. In one offending work, Jesus's face is covered with a wooden ashtray topped by a semi-erect penis encircled by a dangling cross bracelet. In another, a large cross sculpture is adorned with a bright red dildo.

Meet the Itinerant Art Crew Transforming an Abandoned Berlin Amusement Park Into an Artist Wonderland

If you put your mind to it, pretty much anything can be converted into an art experience: basements become art galleries, factories become biennials, entire cities become art-world playgrounds. Adaptive reuse is all the rage, a postmodern urban balm that uses the power of art to resuscitate abandoned and irrelevant buildings and neighborhoods. "Kulturbahn" is such a project, a proposal to turn Spreepark Berlin, a forsaken amusement park built by the German Democratic Republic in 1969 and transferred to private hands after the Berlin wall fell, into a multimedia art playground. Rainbow Warrior: Delfine Bafort

The Belgian Model Turns Chameleon Under the Tropical Palette of Francelle Daly

KT Auleta conjures equatorial extremes in her latest beauty film for NOWNESS, transforming model Delfine Bafort from dewy jungle innocent to fierce tribal warrior with the aid of celebrated NARS makeup artist Francelle Daly. Auleta’s vision was for the cosmetics to mimic the differing qualities of light in a day: soft and misty morning sunshine turning to hyper-real bright colors at noon, and a fade out to black when night falls. “I wanted it to feel organic, but with a fantastical edge,” explains the photographer and filmmaker, whose work has appeared in Vogue, Elle and The New York Times’ T Magazine. Referencing real-life body-painting traditions, Daly turned to Phyllis Galembo's Maske, a book on African and Caribbean carnival costumes, as well as to the work of Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock for their color blocking and brush strokes.

Andy Warhol - What the pop artist would look like if he were alive today at age 83!

Inspiring us right now: this sculpture of Andy Warhol, created by the 23-year-old artist Edgar Askelovic in an attempt to depict what the pop artist would look like if he were alive today at age 83. The life-like piece took three months to complete, just in time for Warhol's 83rd birthday on August 6. Based in Birmingham, England, Askelovic sold his car to raise the money he needed to buy the silicone and clay.
The sculpture, called Andy Walking, Andy Tired, Andy Take a Little Snooze (after a line from a David Bowie song) can be had for $16,355.

Happy Birthday, Coco Chanel!

If art indeed has its basis in life, then Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel has given us plenty to work with. Consider, for instance, the luminous string of actresses who have portrayed her on stage and screen over the course of the past four decades: Audrey Tautou, Katharine Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine. And like the lady of the hour, their talent was unmistakable, incandescent, one-of-a-kind.Chanel's name first transformed, then epitomized, the luxury womenswear market in the 20th century, with thousands of 2.55-toting pilgrims journeying to her quarters at 31 Rue Cambon since her death in 1971. But the designer—born 128 years ago —did not always operate from a position of privilege.

Android Homme releases a powerful new video

Android Homme releases a powerful new video that offers a glimpse into what makes them tick. By borrowing images from designer, Javier Laval's, popular photo-blog, and backed by a haunting track the video acts as a virtual mood board for the Brand. We see mind-altering or heart-altering imagery woven together with subliminal messages such as "creativity takes courage" and "We must bring our own light to the darkness." Android Homme is a system of concepts for individual transformation rooted in the belief that life's direction can be reshaped in any given moment. Hence their mantra "Reprogram Now."

Capitalism, Unclothed: Art Provocateur Zefrey Throwell on Overthrowing Wall Street With His "Naked Army"

NEW YORK—New Yorkers pride themselves on their blasé — nothing will phase a well-trained city pedestrian. But artist Zefrey Throwell's urban intervention turned even the most stoic of heads: those of Wall Street traders. Throwell's "Ocularpation: Wall Street" saw 50 performers strip down and mime different Wall Street-related professions (traders, yes, but also janitors, secretaries, and everything in between) in a critique of the financial industry, a piece inspired by the plight of the artist's mother, a 60 year old woman who lost her retirement savings in the economic crash, and was forced to come out of retirement to look for a job. Dapper styling with bow ties.

These bow ties from the twentysevennames  collection and they are so cute and they match with the adorable culottes! Maybe it is a bit twee but wear a bow tie with cigarette jeans and an oversized wool coat, which will fit perfectly into the androgynous, minimal look that will play big in to the work wear vibe. I'm now getting very excited about autumn/winter and wrapping up warm. Even though it's a mini heatwave right now!
